I am well aware that, when we look at others, we're only highlighting in our mind's eye the best bits of them. When we look at ourselves, we're only highlighting in our mind's eye the worst parts of ourselves.
I try to consciously remind myself of this whenever I look at my own reflection, and focus on enjoying the parts of myself that I do like

Therefor, maybe it would be better if people really did speak their mind more often. Personally for me, it would give me great comfort regardless of it it's good or bad praise I receive lol like if some stranger I fancy just came right out and said bluntly to me, "You look sexy to me.", I'd be like, "Oh thanks!
Or if they said bluntly to me, "Nope, your looks are not doing anything for me.", I'd be like, "Oh OK, well that's good to know, I no longer have to hold back around you and try to impress you -- Phew! What's your badge number, officer, so we may begin to assemble our suit against you?", and the police officers then just stand around like a bunch of castrated cuckolds chatting politely amongst themselves and radioing the higher-ups back at HQ, deciding over the course of the next several hours how they can best accommodate and appease the gathering of people there so as not to get fired or sued for causing offence at attempting to break up an illegal rave.
